Peregrine Falcons in London

Dave on Building Hi, my name is David Morrison and I am a urban peregrine consultant and keen birdwatcher. Since 2001 I have been lucky enough to work in collaboration with "Natural England", in assisting developers and organisations with the integration of nesting-territorial Peregrine Falcons, into their structures or
developments. This integration has happened with both old and new structures in the capital, where birds are showing territorial behaviour. To assist and encourage breeding, nestboxes or trays have been placed where there is no natural nest scrape available.

Colonisation of London

Editorial From the late 90s' with the first pair breeding in London, they have continued to grow in numbers. In 2010 we are now up to the heady heights of 18 known pairs within the London Natural History Boundary and most pairs seem to hold territory all year round. One of the
reasons for this is the abundance of feral pigeon and the threat from other  single Peregrines. Continued monitoring has shown that there are many singles waiting in the ‘wings’ and many pairs on prime sites are constantly having the strength of their pairing tested as most mate for life.
